Ngov Sengkak, Deputy Governor of the Siem Reap Provincial Administration, a certificate award ceremony was presided over to honor successful graduates who had completed professional hospitality training at Sala Hotel and Sala Bai during the 2025–2026 academic year.
The ceremony was attended by the Director of the Department of Vocational Tourism Training, the Director of the Siem Reap Provincial Department of Tourism, the Director of Sala Hotel and Sala Bai, representatives of the Skills Development Fund (SDF), representatives of relevant departments and institutions, associations, hotels, parents and guardians, trainees, instructors, and teachers, with a total attendance of more than 300 participants.
In his address, H.E. the Secretary of State emphasized that the development of human capital in the tourism sector requires the active engagement of all relevant stakeholders, including both the public and private sectors. Such collaboration is essential to establishing a high-quality skills development system that responds effectively to the actual demands of the labour market and the evolving needs of the tourism industry.
In this regard, vocational tourism training institutions in Siem Reap Province have actively contributed to enhancing the quality of professional training by integrating the Cambodian Hospitality Training Programme (HoKa) and the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism Professionals (ASEAN MRA-TP) curriculum into their training programmes. They have also demonstrated innovation by developing HoKa and ASEAN curricula into full-time training programmes, thereby providing professional skills training to hundreds of Cambodian youth in Siem Reap Province.
In particular, Sala Hotel and Sala Bai have been implementing the ASEAN curriculum at ASEAN Level 1 for Certificate II (Cert II) qualifications, requiring students to complete at least 23 competency units in accordance with the ASEAN Common Competency Standards for Tourism Professionals. This implementation represents an important model of collaboration among government institutions, training institutions, and the private sector in ensuring the quality of professional skills development and producing a competent workforce that meets labour market requirements and is capable of competing at both the national and ASEAN regional levels.
A total of 150 trainees successfully completed their studies and are being awarded certificates in hospitality competencies in accordance with ASEAN competency standards under the ASEAN MRA-TP framework, corresponding to the Certificate II (Certification II) qualification. The training was provided by Sala Hotel and Sala Bai in Siem Reap Province, with co-financing support from the Skills Development Fund (SDF).
It is noteworthy that Sala Hotel and Sala Bai has been implementing training programmes aligned with the ASEAN MRA-TP competency standards, with authorization from the Ministry of Tourism, for the past 24 years, from 2002 to 2026. Over this period, a total of approximately 2,200 trainees have successfully completed their studies, making the institution an important contributor to the development of qualified human resources for Cambodia’s tourism and hospitality industry.
