Integrating Theory with Practical Application: National Assessor Training under the ASEAN MRA-TP Framework in Siem Reap Province Siem Reap Province — During Days 6 and 7 of the National Assessor Training Programme for the Hospitality Services sector under the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism Professionals (ASEAN MRA-TP), participants engaged in practical competency assessment exercises designed to strengthen their assessment knowledge and professional capabilities. As part of the practical sessions, trainees prepared and delivered presentations on the Competency Assessment Process by selecting a Unit of Competency from the ASEAN Tourism Toolbox and conducting a simulated competency assessment within a 30-minute assessment period. The practical exercises were specifically designed to reinforce participants’ competencies as future National Assessors, with emphasis on the correct application of assessment procedures in accordance with the ASEAN Common Competency Standards for Tourism Professionals (ACCSTP) and the principles of Competency-Based Assessment (CBA). Throughout the assessment process, participants developed and applied key assessment documentation, including: 1. Assessment Plan 2. Assessment Matrix 3. Assessment Tools 4. Assessment decision grild 5. Competency Recording Sheet Through hands-on practice and professional presentations, participants enhanced their ability to develop assessment plans, establish assessment criteria, apply appropriate assessment instruments, gather valid and sufficient evidence of competence, and accurately record assessment outcomes with transparency, fairness, consistency, and professional integrity. Constructive feedback and recommendations from the trainers further enabled participants to refine their assessment practices and strengthen the quality and effectiveness of competency assessment. This training programme forms part of the Ministry of Tourism’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the capacity of National Assessors, ensuring that competency assessments for tourism professionals are conducted with quality, professionalism, transparency, and in full compliance with the ASEAN MRA-TP framework.
