Siem Reap Province: On the afternoon of 13 July 2026, with the high authorization of H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, H.E. Mrs. Vann Sereyroth, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism, presided over the opening ceremony of the 2nd Special Refresher Training Programme for Tourist Guides of Siem Reap and Surrounding Regions, held at the Headquarters of the APSARA National Authority.
The ceremony was attended by H.E. Ngov Sengkak, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap Province and representative of H.E. Prak Sophorn, Governor of Siem Reap Province; Mr. Phorn Phalla, Director of the Department of Administration and Personnel and representative of H.E. Hang Pov, Director-General of the APSARA National Authority; together with instructors, trainees, and distinguished guests, totaling 120 participants.
This specialized training programme reflects the strong commitment of the Ministry of Tourism and the APSARA National Authority to continuously enhance the professional competence of practicing tourist guides in Siem Reap and its surrounding regions. The programme is designed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and skills by incorporating the latest archaeological discoveries, conservation research, and heritage management updates, delivered directly by experts from both institutions.
The curriculum has been carefully developed to address the evolving responsibilities of professional tourist guides while aligning with the APSARA National Authority’s mandate for safeguarding the Angkor Archaeological Park and Cambodia’s cultural heritage. The programme also aims to establish a unified body of knowledge that enables tourist guides to effectively contribute to heritage conservation while delivering accurate, engaging, and up-to-date interpretation of Cambodia’s world-renowned cultural destinations.
Previously, the Ministry of Tourism and the APSARA National Authority successfully organized the 1st Special Refresher Training Programme, conducted from 6–17 June 2022, with 49 participants. The 2nd programme, taking place from 13–17 July 2026, brings together 74 tourist guides representing the Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Khmer (Angkor), Russian, French, and German language guide associations, as well as independent (freelance) tourist guides.
Through this initiative, the Ministry of Tourism and the APSARA National Authority reaffirm their shared commitment to strengthening the quality, professionalism, and international competitiveness of Cambodia’s tourist guide profession, while supporting the sustainable conservation and promotion of the Kingdom’s invaluable cultural heritage.
