Ministry of Tourism Headquarters: On the afternoon of 10 August 2026, under the guidance of Dr. Chuob Ratana, Director of Tourism Professional Training Department, Mr. Chek Karoun, Deputy Director of the Department, led technical officials of the Department in a working meeting with the Director of the Cambodia Cocktail School (CCS) and its team.
The meeting focused on reviewing and exploring opportunities to expand cooperation in vocational skills training for the hospitality and tourism sectors, with the aim of contributing to the enhancement of human resource quality and addressing the actual needs of the labour market, in alignment with national, ASEAN, and international standards.
During the meeting, Mr. Chek Kearun warmly welcomed the Director of the Cambodia Cocktail School (CCS) and his team and highly appreciated the school’s initiative to establish a partnership with the Ministry of Tourism. He emphasized that the engagement of development partners and relevant institutions is a key driving force in creating learning and skills training opportunities that are strongly oriented towards practical application. Such partnerships can also enable young people and tourism professionals to acquire competencies that are directly applicable to the labour market.
He further highlighted the visionary leadership and strong commitment of the Minister of Tourism to human resource development in the tourism sector through the implementation of three key training programmes, namely: the Cambodia Hospitality Training Programme (HoKa), the Cambodia Qualifications Framework (CQF)-aligned training programme, and the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism Professionals (ASEAN MRA-TP)-aligned training programme.
These programmes serve as important mechanisms for strengthening the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies of tourism and hospitality workers. They also contribute to improving service quality, expanding employment opportunities, and enhancing the competitiveness of Cambodia’s workforce in response to labour market demands at the national, regional, and international levels.
During the discussion, both parties exchanged views and explored potential areas of cooperation, including:
1. Exploring the procedures and feasibility of registering the Cambodia Cocktail School (CCS) as a vocational tourism training institution in the hospitality sector. This would enable the school to develop and deliver quality, competency-based training programmes aligned with professional standards, thereby contributing to strengthening the capacity of tourism professionals and expanding employment opportunities at the national, regional, and international levels.
2. Exploring the possibility of providing relevant competency-based qualification framework documents and tools to support the implementation of a pilot project on bartending skills for two training cohorts, comprising a total of 50 trainees, to be offered free of charge to the public. The pilot project will focus on strengthening theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies, enabling trainees to better prepare for entry into the labour market.
This cooperation is expected to contribute to strengthening the ecosystem for tourism skills development by establishing stronger linkages among training, professional standards, and labour market needs. It will contribute to improving workforce productivity, service quality, and the competitiveness of Cambodia’s human resources, while supporting the Royal Government’s vision of developing Cambodia’s tourism sector into a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable economic sector.
