Phnom Penh, Cambodia: On the afternoon of 21 October 2026, Dr. Choub Ratana, Director of Tourism Professional Training Department and Chair of the Secretariat of the National Committee for Tourism Professionals, led a delegation of three departmental officials in a working meeting with Mr. Pok Panhapich, Senior Manager of Khmer Enterprise. The meeting aimed to explore potential cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and Khmer Enterprise to promote the establishment, strengthening, and development of entrepreneurship in Cambodia’s tourism sector, with the broader objective of fostering a dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem for the sector.

During the meeting, Dr. Choub Ratana highlighted the Ministry of Tourism’s initiatives to develop the informal economy within the tourism sector. These initiatives include developing and strengthening the professional competencies of tourism workers engaged in the informal economy, supporting tourism operators in enhancing their capacities and expanding their businesses, and implementing a project to support Koh Trong Community in developing itself as a green tourism destination, with support from the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF).

Mr. Pok Panhapich explained that Khmer Enterprise was established by the Ministry of Economy and Finance to mobilise, invest, and manage resources in support of a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in Cambodia. The institution seeks to advance entrepreneurial activities by fostering innovation and creating added value within the Cambodian economy. Khmer Enterprise envisions becoming a national platform for promoting entrepreneurship across four key priority sectors, including technology, particularly technology-driven start-ups, and services, encompassing hospitality and tourism.

As an outcome of the meeting, the Ministry of Tourism and Khmer Enterprise explored potential areas for collaboration to support and develop tourism-related small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as to promote entrepreneurship within the Koh Trong eco-community, with the aim of developing the community into a green tourism destination.
