Siem Reap Province: H.E. HUOT Hak, Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the National Committee for Tourism Professionals, presided over the closing ceremony of the “Hospitality Training Course for 200 Trainees of the Siem Reap Tourism Club.”
The ceremony brought together approximately 500 participants, including H.E. Ngov Seng Kak, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap Province; Mr. SET Kao, President of the Siem Reap Tourism Club; H.E. Ki Sokkim, Chief Executive Officer of the Skills Development Fund (SDF); H.E. Dr. Sok Tonh, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Angkor University; senior officials of the Ministry of Tourism; representatives of tourism businesses, tourism associations, and training institutions; instructors; and trainees.
Speaking on the occasion, H.E. the Minister commended the Siem Reap Provincial Administration for its continued support and close cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism in advancing tourism development, particularly the implementation of the “Siem Reap Tourism Development Plan 2026–2030.” He also praised the Siem Reap Tourism Club for its efforts to train a total of 700 disadvantaged and vulnerable young people and tourism professionals from 2023 to 2026, in line with the HoKa training programme and ASEAN competency standards.
H.E. the Minister noted that Cambodia’s tourism sector trains just over 2,500 new workers annually, which remains insufficient to meet the sector’s workforce needs. He further highlighted that the Skills Development Fund has provided co-financing to support skills development for 91,636 Cambodian young people, including 8,504 trainees in the tourism sector.
H.E. the Minister emphasised that developing human capital in tourism is a priority aligned with the Royal Government’s Pentagonal Strategy–Phase I, which places “People” as its first priority, alongside the goal of ensuring that “every citizen has at least one skill for life” and the approach of “learning to master skills, learning to complete training, and learning to secure employment.” To this end, the Ministry of Tourism has trained 30 ASEAN Master Trainers and Master Assessors, subsequently provided training to more than 800 National Trainers and National Assessors, and recognised nine tourism vocational training institutions, including four that offer full ASEAN qualification programmes.
Furthermore, H.E. the Minister recommended that the Skills Development Fund continue expanding its support for tourism skills training and opportunities for disadvantaged and vulnerable young people. He encouraged training institutions to continue providing opportunities for women, persons with disabilities, and young people who have dropped out of school. Tourism businesses were urged to strengthen in-house training using ASEAN training toolboxes and seek recognition through the CTPRS system. He also called on tourism associations and training institutions to strengthen cooperation and instructors’ capacities, while encouraging all 200 trainees to pursue lifelong learning and serve tourists with professionalism and ethical conduct.
The hospitality training course was organised by the Siem Reap Tourism Club, with support from the Skills Development Fund and cooperation from relevant stakeholders. It aimed to strengthen trainees’ capacities and professional skills to meet workforce needs and improve service quality in Cambodia’s tourism sector.
