Siem Reap Province, 17 July 2026: Mr. Chek Kearun, Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism Professional Training, Ministry of Tourism, served as a resource person for the Second Special Refresher Training Programme for Regional Tourist Guides of Siem Reap and Surrounding Areas, held at the Department of Public Order of the General Department of the APSARA National Authority. The programme brought together 88 licensed tourist guides.
During the training, the resource person delivered lectures and shared professional knowledge and practical experience on two key topics:
1. Sustainable Tourism Development
2. Tourist Safety and Security
Through these sessions, participants gained a deeper understanding of the principles of sustainable tourism, emphasizing a balanced approach to economic growth, social well-being, cultural preservation, and environmental sustainability. The programme also reinforced the vital role of tourist guides in safeguarding Cambodia’s national heritage, promoting responsible tourism practices, and communicating the nation’s rich cultural identity to both domestic and international visitors.
In addition, participants enhanced their knowledge of tourist safety and security management, including preventive measures, risk assessment and response, emergency preparedness, and the application of professional service standards. These competencies are essential for strengthening visitor confidence and delivering safe, high-quality, and memorable tourism experiences.
This Special Refresher Training Programme reflects the continued commitment of the Ministry of Tourism and the APSARA National Authority to developing a highly competent, future-ready, and professionally qualified workforce of tourist guides in accordance with national and international standards. By enhancing the knowledge, skills, and professionalism of tourist guides, the programme contributes to improving the quality of tourism services, safeguarding Cambodia’s invaluable cultural heritage, and strengthening the competitiveness of Cambodia’s tourism sector at both the regional and global levels.
As frontline representatives of the nation, tourist guides play an indispensable role as professional ambassadors of Cambodia’s cultural heritage and sustainable tourism, fostering meaningful visitor experiences while promoting the Kingdom’s identity, values, and enduring heritage to the world.
