Siem Reap Province: During Days 3 and 4 of the National Master Assessor Training Programme for Hotel Services under the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism Professionals (ASEAN MRA-TP), participants engaged in intensive practical exercises focusing on the preparation and presentation of competency assessment processes.
Each trainee was required to select an appropriate Unit of Competency (UoC) from the ASEAN Common Competency Standards for Tourism Professionals (ACCSTP) and conduct a simulated competency assessment within a 20-minute timeframe. This practical exercise was designed to strengthen participants’ technical competencies and deepen their understanding of the roles and responsibilities of National Master Assessors in implementing competency-based assessment in accordance with ASEAN standards.
As part of the exercise, participants developed and presented the following key assessment documents:
1. Assessment Plan – outlining the assessment objectives, scope, methodology, schedule, venue, required resources, and overall assessment procedures.
2. Assessment Matrix – mapping competency elements and performance criteria with the required evidence and appropriate assessment methods to ensure comprehensive coverage of all competency requirements.
3. Assessment Tools – comprising observation checklists, oral and/or written questions, practical assessment tasks, and other supporting instruments designed to measure candidates’ competencies objectively and consistently.
4. Competency Recording Sheet – used to systematically document assessment evidence, assessment outcomes, and final competency decisions based on established competency standards and the principles of valid, reliable, fair, and professional assessment.
It is also noteworthy that, during the upcoming practical assessment sessions scheduled for 18–19 July, participants will undertake hands-on competency assessment activities that will further strengthen their understanding of assessment planning, the development of performance criteria, the appropriate application of assessment tools in accordance with ASEAN standards, and the transparent and professional recording of assessment outcomes. These practical sessions are expected to further enhance the quality, consistency, and credibility of competency assessment practices, thereby contributing to the mutual recognition of tourism professionals across ASEAN Member States under the ASEAN MRA-TP framework.
